Cookies for Soldiers project

As we prepare to say WE LOVE YOU in a delectable way to our deployed soldiers, I wanted to share with you these sweet words from Janice Six which were given to each soldier who received cookies last year.

A PRAYER FOR YOU...
You have the whole world in your hands, Lord, and right now it seems very fragile.
We give thanks for the men and women who have stepped forward to try and mend what is broken. Please protect them as they serve, and may their efforts be honored both where they are and by the American people they represent.
With each bite of cookie, remind them that there are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and spouses, children, best friends and co-workers, and members of their church family who love them and eagerly await their return. Amen.

FYI: Each Sunday in worship at First Central Presbyterian Church, Abilene, Texas, we pray for you and will continue to do until you are safely home. These cookies have been made especially for you and those with whom you serve. Enjoy!

Just to let you know…
As I was placing the mounds of cookie dough onto the baking sheet, I thought of how they reminded me of you and those with whom you are serving.
• The dough is a combination of various ingredients—each carries out an important assignment within the dough, i.e. eggs are for leavening, flour is for structure, butter is for tenderness, etc.
• Any one of the ingredients by itself is not a cookie…it takes all ingredients in the right proportion working together.
• These little cookies have been prepared, placed in formation on the baking sheet and sent into the heat. Now they are prepared to serve…as are you.

May God continue to watch over and bless you as you strive to carry out your mission.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.” Psalm 46:1-3

Praying for Peace and Protection,
Rev. Janice Six, Associate Pastor

HOLIDAY GATHERING ~ NOVEMBER 2009

Mark your calendars to reserve Sunday afternoon, November 22, 2009, 3PM to gather with all the women of FCPC and our friends for our first ever HOLIDAY GATHERING! Come and enjoy fine food, wonderful women and marvelous melodies as we usher in the holiday season by offering thanks for the part we each get to play in one another's lives and in God's grand world.

Our own Melody Rich will bless us with a medley of songs, and we will dedicate our Thank Offering.

Can't wait to see you!

In case you might be looking for a photo that I took of you but didn't post, just know that I must have been really excited because I evidently didn't let the camera focus properly before taking the shot making many photos too blurry to post. I promise to do better. So glad each of you was there today! ~ vicki

August Energizer 2009!

Our first event of the PW year was a huge success! Thanks to Becky, Chris and Beverly for the fun "inside picnic" and as always the beautiful decorations. What a blessed time we had breaking bread together and learning about spiritual disciplines and practices from Sarahlee who gave us much to ponder. The new time frame made it possible for many women in our church to participate who would not have been able to attend otherwise.

This evening I am reminded of the breath prayer that Sarahlee taught us today using a familiar scripture.
breathing in..."This is the day the Lord has made"
breathing out... "I will rejoice and be glad in it."
Giving thanks for each of you tonight and feeling really grateful.

Please feel free to leave a comment on our blog.
